Instead of first downloading attachments to a computer, Gmail users can save attached files directly to the Google Drive folder.
Gmail users now can view attachments and save documents directly to Google Drive without ever moving from their e-mail, Google announced in a blog mail Tuesday.
Rather than of downloading attachments, Gmail users can save documents directly by clicking on the Drive button that appears when hovering over attachments at the bottom of an e-mail. Users even can move the document to a specific Drive folder without ever moving from their e-mail. Of course, Gmail users still can download attachments to their computers by clicking the arrow button.
Google said the feature works for all types of documents, images, videos, spreadsheets, and PDFs. The new attachment setup, which is accessible on desktop, will roll out to Gmail users over the next week. It only works inside Gmail, Google said, so desktop e-mail apps or other email clients won’t be able to save attachments.
In addition to rapidly keeping attachments to Drive, the Gmail update lets users browse full-screen attachments before downloading or saving them. Just click on the attachment preview at the base of an e-mail and a large version pops up. Users then can search for a particular phrase in a document or browse through multiple attachments while still in Gmail.
